  Three years ago the Vineyard City Church began an experiment in July that would take our church body beyond the walls of where we meet weekly for worship into the greater Redding and Shasta County community that we're part of.  We quit meeting within our church building for the month of July.

  The idea reinforced the fact that church was not a building, but rather our body is part of the Greater Christian church.  Our community was asked if we would be willing to go out into the and greater Shasta County community and be the church for the month of July.  We didn't stop having our regular weekly discipleship group meetings which go on all year long.  We didn't stop our tithes and offerings. We didn't even stop meeting for church, we just didn't hold church in a conventional way. Some people attended other churches, some held church in their homes, others held church outdoors.... the ideas were as unlimited as the Fathers heart is for his people to be an expression of his love for all people everywhere.

  This experiment,  when walked out by our community, was a positive success. From then on Church in July became a yearly event. 

  Being the Church in July 2008 will once again be an exciting adventure.  Some within our community have already made plans to be the church in various ways which can be seen on our church calendar  within this website. Others are waiting for the Lord to lead them. Within our June 15 weekly church bulletin we included some ideas for being the church this July. We hope they  inspire you.
